A new rap artist must have the right attitude in order to remain in the business. In the past, men and women used to look down on Rap music and the Hip Hop culture. Neither do they look at Rap music as an art form for which it is; instead it was considered a fad that will hopefully disappear. Rap music has been in existence for more than two decades. Just as other genres of music have progressed and been influenced over time, Rap music too has progressed significantly and must be acknowledged for the art it has become.

Rap and hip-hop music actually started hundreds of years ago in Africa with the "griots", who were village story tellers who played a straightforward handmade musical instrument while they told stories of loved ones and village activities. The griot was, and still is, an important form of communication in parts of Africa. As the 1980s evolved, rap songs became both much more popular and even more complicated. During the 1990s, rap music changed drastically with the advent of gangsta rap. Although the lyrics of rap songs had until now involved an element of boasting, gangsta rap took this lyrical sentiment to another level. Gangsta rap triggered much debate among those who claimed it perpetuated bad stereotypes of black urban people.

A new rap artist must have consistency. Consistency is quickly confused with high frequency. Consistency is the idea of creating a frequency pattern, whether it be a mix tape once a week or once a year, and adhering to it. What truly hurts rappers is an extended break. Building momentum is a struggle, and if that feat is accomplished, relaxing on it is the most counter-productive move an artist can make. Although the rhythm and beat of rap music is essential to its basic structure, the strength of rap music lies in its lyrics. Rap songs often can use the same pre-recorded background music however the difference in the lyrics of the song makes them stand apart from one another. It is the lyrics of the songs that make rap music fantastic.

Hip hop music was first perfected in the nineteen seventies. To become the renowned New Rap Artist, one should perform well, develop the right attitude, and even more importantly know how to dance. Becoming a Rap Artist is not an easy job. It certainly requires a great deal of work, confidence, and perseverance.
